Cheung Chau is the most populous island in the Islands District, and it is a popular weekend 'retreat' with an increasing demand for recreational facilities, holiday homes and other supporting services.
About 29 hectares of land has been formed and serviced for various uses, including commercial / residential, public housing and open space. The Stage 1 improvement works to the existing roads and drains in Cheung Chau Old Town were completed in 1999. The Stage 2 improvement works were also completed in 2008. The laying of sewers in Pak She San Tsuen, Tai Tsoi Yuen Kui, Ko Shan Tsuen and Lung Tsai Tsuen under the final stage of the project has been transferred to the Drainage Services Department for implementation under their ambit. The project is completed.
