Stratigraphy: Jurassic volcanic rocks with an age of approximately 164.6 ± 0.7 million years before present.

Distribution: The Tai Mo Shan Formation crops out mainly in the northern part of the New Territories, including the high ground around Tai Mo Shan.

Lithology: Lapilli lithic-bearing coarse ash crystal tuff.
