Opening of the Landslide Sci-Tech Chamber at Po Shan
In 1972, the catastrophic landslide at Po Shan Road in the Mid-Levels shattered numerous homes and took away 67 lives. Years later, the Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO) built an innovative and sustainable groundwater regulation system in the Po Shan hillside, entitled the "Po Shan Drainage Tunnel" so as to control the groundwater level at that area, thereby reducing the risk of large-scale landslides in the area and ensuring public safety.
Given the uniqueness of the Po Shan Drainage Tunnel and its novel features, the GEO established a "Landslide Sci-Tech Chamber" in the tunnel to convey the importance of slope safety to the public. The Landslide Sci-Tech Chamber was opened on 18 September 2021. The Director of Civil Engineering and Development, Mr LAU Chun-kit, Ricky, visited the facilities in the chamber together with students of Ying Wa College.
