Entries invited for Pedestrian Street Naming Competition for Grid Neighbourhood within Kai Tak Development
The Pedestrian Street Naming Competition for Grid Neighbourhood within Kai Tak Development organised by the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) is inviting entries from today (January 5). Students and the general public are welcome to suggest creative Chinese names for the 10 pedestrian routes in the Grid Neighbourhood to serve as a reference for the project in the future.
Speaking at a media briefing, the Head of the Kai Tak Office under the CEDD, Ms Ying Fun-fong, said, "Located at the centre of the Kai Tak Development area, the Grid Neighbourhood is a major community in the Kai Tak Development project. It adjoins the future Station Square and Kai Tak Sports City with the Kai Tak River running through it. Its development will bring energy and vitality to the entire Kai Tak Development area.
"By organising the competition, we hope to solicit innovative street names that reflect the local identity of the Grid Neighbourhood as well as echo the planning vision of the Kai Tak Development, which is to create a distinguished, vibrant, attractive and people-oriented community adjacent to Victoria Harbour."
She said that the CEDD had earlier organised open competitions for design ideas for the Lung Tsun Stone Bridge Remnants Preservation Corridor and the Kai Tak River to further engage the public in the development of Kai Tak, thereby enhancing their knowledge of the project.
The Competition is divided into an Open Group and a Student Group. Attractive awards include $10,000, $6,000 and $4,000 for the first, second and third prizes in the Open Group, and $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 for the first, second and third prizes in the Student Group.
Submission of entries will close on February 2. For details, please visit the competition website at www.ktd-streetnaming.hk.
