Abstract

This Geospec presents the recommended technical standards of prestressed ground anchors used in Hong Kong. They include requirements on material, system, anchor installation, acceptance testing and destressing. The technical standards incorporated in this second edition are based on a consolidation of existing local practice and experience, an analysis of database records and after consideration of several relevant international and national codes. Of great importance is the process of post-construction monitoring, which must continue throughout the life of an anchor system. The requirement for long-term monitoring may be expensive and difficult to achieve, and for this reason ground anchors should only be used when other methods of provided the required support are not practicable.
