Abstract
This report consists of two technical review documents on the subject of caisson design in granitic and volcanic rocks. Various well-established and internationally used design methods for pile foundations on rock have been reviewed. Allowable bearing stresses and likely settlements for granitic and volcanic rock foundations have been calculated by various methods, with particular references to the fresh to moderately weathered rock mass grades.
