Abstract
This GEO Report consists of five Landslide Study Reports on the investigation of selected slope failures that occurred in 1997. The investigations were carried out by Halcrow Asia Partnership Ltd (HAP) for the Geotechnical Engineering Office as part of the 1997 Landslip Investigation Consultancy.
Section 1 of this report presents the findings of a detailed study of two landslides (GEO Incident Nos. MW97/6/12 and MW97/6/23) which occurred on the heavily-vegetated hillside to the south of Sha Tin Heights Road on 4 June 1997. Debris from the landslides inundated a car park and a recreational area of the Woodcrest Hill development located at the toe of the hillside. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
Section 2 of this report presents the findings of a detailed study of a landslide (GEO Incident No. MW97/5/1) that occurred at the crest of the natural hillside south of Blocks 3 and 4, Wonderland Villas, Kwai Chung. In the morning of 8 May 1997, debris from the landslide travelled down the slope and partly blocked the south-bound lane of Wah King Hill Road. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
Section 3 of this report presents the findings of a detailed study of four landslides (GEO Incident Nos. MW97/5/14, MW97/6/49, MW97/6/50 and MW97/6/56) which occurred on slopes adjacent to Kau Wa Keng San Tsuen on 4 June 1997. Debris from the landslides affected the squatter village, but no fatalities or injuries were reported.
Section 4 of this report presents the findings of a detailed study of a landslide (GEO Incident No. MW97/7/11) which occurred on 2 July 1997 and affected a fill slope on the approach to Telford Bridge below the west-bound carriageway of Tuen Mun Road, near Ting Kau. Debris from the landslide blocked an access road at the toe of the fill slope. In addition, the landslide undermined part of the verge of the Tuen Mun Road resulting in temporary lane closures and significant disruption to traffic throughout the day. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
Section 5 of this report presents the findings of a detailed study of a landslide (GEO Incident No. MW97/6/41) which occurred on 4 June 1997 on a cut slope above Lai Cho Road, Kwai Chung. Debris from the landslide remained on the slope and did not travel as far as Lai Cho Road. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
