Abstract

This report presents the findings of a review of a landslide cluster that occurred on the natural hillside above Tai O San Tsuen, Tai O, Lantau Island. The landslides were reported on the morning of 7 June 2008 following very heavy rainfall. The incident involved five separate landslide areas, some with multiple sources. The total failure volume involved was about 1000 m³. Much of the debris was deposited at the toe of the hillside with a small proportion remaining on the hillside. No casualties were reported as a result of the landslides.

The key objectives of this review were to document the facts about the landslides, including relevant background information and pertinent site observations made under this review. The scope of the review does not include detailed diagnosis of the causes of the incident. Recommendations for follow-up actions are presented separately.
